Silver Metal Clay Pendant Using
Scratch Foam Designs
and Adding Color With UV Resin
(To be scheduled)
I am so excited about this full day class! This is going to be a seven hour day and is beginner to intermediate friendly. After creating a design in scratch foam, and making a fine silver pendant out of metal clay, students will learn to apply colored UV resin to their pieces. I have been using resin for years in my work, but not until now have I taught about this incredible way to add color to silver metal clay jewelry.
We will start at 9am and the class will have three parts:
Part 1 – Using scratch foam to create our designs.
Part 2 – Making our pendants with silver metal clay.
Part 3 – Adding color with UV resin.
Scratch foam: Students will be introduced to using compressed scratch foam sheets to create the design for their pendant. With a ball point pen, or ball stylus, students will choose one of the class designs, or draw their own design for imprinting on rolled out metal clay.
Metal Clay: After an introduction to silver metal clay, our tools, materials and steps for making our pieces, students will roll out the clay, imprint their designs with the scratch foam. After drying and refining their pieces, students will then torch fire them transforming the clay into fine silver.
UV Resin: Once fired, students will learn about UV resin and apply it to their silver pieces. Using a UV lamp, the resin will harden and become permanent color. After the resin is cured and final polish, you will have created a one-of-a-kind, beautiful solid silver pendant to wear or give as a gift. Barbara will have sterling silver chains available for purchase if desired.
What’s included?
All instruction, materials, tools, supplies and silver clay are included. The value of the supplies and clay is approximately $60. You will also leave the class with a printed list of resources for getting started with metal clay at home. I am also available to all my students to answer questions and make recommendations as they continue their metal clay journey! Best of all, you will be the proud owner of a beautiful, one of a kind silver pendant that YOU made!
