Metal Clay Classes
In these half, full or multiple day classes, Barbara’s students get hands on experience with silver or bronze metal clay and produce their own handmade jewelry, to enjoy or give as a gift. All instruction, materials and tools are provided. All skill levels welcome! Barbara’s classes now have a new home! Classes are now held at the Mountain Artists Guild in downtown Prescott, AZ.

Class Descriptions
Intro to Metal Clay
Project: Fine silver textured earrings (see video)
Students receive three to four hours of hands-on with metal clay. You will learn a little about the history and composition of metal clay. You will learn about how to use basic tools for working with metal clay. Students will learn how to roll it out to desired thickness, imprint textures, cut clay with templates, dry the clay, and refine it for torch firing. After you fire you pieces, you will learn how to finish the fine silver and bring it to a lustrous silver finish, complete with patina. Barbara will be happy to add the sterling ear wire and a bead if you like! (Scroll down to see photos from past classes)
What’s included?
All instruction, tools, supplies and clay are provided. The clay alone is a $40 value. You will leave the class with a beautiful pair of fine silver earrings, and maybe a little extra clay to play with at home.

Intro Class: Registration Closed
Metal Clay II
(Intro class is a prerequisite to all other classes)
Project: Two Texture Multi-layer Pendant
Students receive three to four hours of hands-on with metal clay and pick up were they left off in the Intro Class. You will learn how to use some new tools and techniques, and will design a multi-layer pendant. Students will create the separate elements in clay that will be dried, refined and joined together. You will learn how to make a fold-over bail to add to the back of your pendant. (Scroll down to see photos from past classes)
What’s included?
All instruction, tools, supplies and clay are provided. The clay is a $45 – 50 value. You will leave the class with a beautiful fine silver pendant, and maybe a little extra clay to play with at home.
Class usually starts at 12:30 am and we should be finished up by 4:00

About Barbara
Barbara is the artist and owner of Sweet Cedar Jewelry Design, founded in 2009. Before moving to Arizona in 2021, she sold her work at fine art shows and festivals throughout California. She holds two PMC Certifications, a BA in studio art, and has over 25 years of teaching experience.
Now living in Prescott Valley, she is offering classes for beginning and experienced metal clay students. She also is available for private lessons.
